What Does “Ola” Really Mean? (Spoiler: Everything)

What Does “Ola” Really Mean? (Spoiler: Everything)
When we first started Ola,

We didn’t set out to make a statement.
We just made underwear that women actually wanted to wear.

Then came the name : Ola.
Simple, strong, and somehow… perfect.
Only later did we realise it meant so much more.

Let’s rewind for a sec.

In the very early days, before we were drowning in fabric swatches and warehouse boxes, we were going to call ourselves “Honour the Label.”
Cute, right? Meaningful, deep, a little poetic… until we realised it was taken.
So, we went back to the drawing board and stumbled onto a word that would end up meaning way more than we ever planned: Ola.

💫 The Greek Origin — “Everything”

In Greek, όλα (óla) literally translates to “everything.”
And honestly? That’s the whole mood.

Because she is everything.
Soft and strong.
Chill and chaotic.
Main character and background character when she needs a break.
She doesn’t have to choose and neither do we.

Ola was born from underwear, but the meaning “everything” became a reminder of who we design for: women who are all of it.

🌸 The Arabic Meaning — “Rise Up”

In Arabic, Ola means “to rise,” “to be elevated,” or “to be high.”
Which feels a bit poetic for a brand built on making you feel lifted in all the right places 😉
But seriously — we love that it carries this meaning of rising above.
Above comparison. Above trends. Above the idea that comfort and confidence can’t coexist.
💎 The Yorùbá Meaning — “Honour and Wealth”

And then there’s Ọlá, from the Yoruba language — meaning “honour,” “wealth,” or “nobility.” Wildly enough, that ties straight back to our original name idea, Honour the Label. Maybe the universe was having a little giggle, because we ended up there anyway  just in a cooler, shorter, more international way.

It’s like Ola’s been carrying that meaning the whole time, we just had to catch up.
🌊 The Hawaiian Layer — “Life, Health, To Thrive”

In Hawaiian, Ola means “life” or “to thrive.”
And that’s what we want for every woman who wears Ola.
Not just to look good (though, let’s be honest, you will) but to feel alive in her skin.
To thrive, not survive.
To wear her “everything” like it’s the comfiest second skin she’s ever owned.
🪞 So, What Does Ola Mean to Us?

It means you.
All versions of you.
The one that shows up. The one that sleeps in. The one that’s figuring it out.

Because Ola from Greek, Arabic, Yorùbá, Hawaiian and beyond , always circles back to one thing: Wholeness. Worth. Everything.

Ola began as underwear but she evolved into something bigger.
A reminder that you can be soft, strong, and everything in between.
